Examinations
Examination:
Unit R105: Design Briefs, specifications and user requirements.
Written exam - (1 hour, 25% of the grade)
Students explore and develop their understanding of the design cycle, the requirements for a design brief, specification and the importance of research data for a design solution.
Students initially sit the exam in January (TBC) and should students not be as successful as they had hoped they can have the option to resit in June (Normally TBC).
Assessments
Unit R106: Product Analysis and research -
(10 - 12 hours to complete the assignment work / 25% of the grade)
Learning Outcome 1: Commercial production methods, quality and legislation impact on the design of products and components.
Learning Outcome 2: Researching existing products.
Learning Outcome 3: Analysing existing products through disassembly
Unit R107: Developing and presenting engineering designs
(10 - 12 hours to complete the assignment work / 25% of the grade)
Learning Outcome 1: Generate design proposals using a range of techniques.
Learning Outcome 2: Developing designs using engineering drawing techniques and annotation.
Learning Outcome 3: Using Computer Aided Design (CAD) software and techniques to produce and communicate design proposals.
Unit R108: 3D Design Realisation
(YR11 students - Do Not complete due to reduced learning time)
(10 - 12 hours to complete the assignment work / 25% of the grade)
Learning Outcome 1: Planning to make a prototype.
Learning Outcome 2: Understanding safe working practices when making a prototype.
Learning Outcome 3: Producing and methods of recording the key stages of making a prototype.
Additional support being provided by school
-
After school co-curricular sessions are available (Day TBC).
-
Google classroom will have resources to support from the exam board however this must not be copied.
-
Individual teachers may advise of the appropriate session for students to attend and if unsure please contact the teacher directly.
How parents and carers can best support their child
Ensure that when units are assigned to students that parental support and encouragement. Encourage structure and organisation to the student’s revision. This will probably be a workable and reasonable plan to include their subjects. It is important to encourage self-discipline of the student to keep on track with their schedule, to encourage students to share concerns with teachers.
