Uniform

Uniform is an important way for us to include all students in as affordable way as possible. Presenting ourselves appropriately for study and work is an important skill to develop and it shows the high value we place on positive behaviour and respect for learning.

Our uniform sets the standard the school expects and is appropriate for a place of work.

We also keep uniform expectations simple and as affordable as possible, with very few branded items required.

Years 7 to 11

  • TGS Blazer
  • TGS Tie
  • Formal style school trousers (e.g. no skinny fit or flares) or a TGS style “straight” school skirt (e.g. no pleats, flared, zips and does not hug the figure). Skirts should be an appropriate length, just above the knee will be acceptable. Skirts should not be of a jersey type fabric. Families should purchase a skirt of an appropriate length to last their child the full year, or be prepared to buy a new skirt when it becomes too short. Students should not wear skirts that are too small. Trousers must be worn at an appropriate height around the waist and should not be loose around the waist. A simple belt may be worn if required.
  • Plain white buttoned shirt (collar must fasten).
  • Black socks or black tights. Socks must be plain black without any logos or patterns.
  • Plain black shoes. Not canvas or training shoes - for example no Vans, Nike or Converse. They must polishable.
  • Optional TGS jumper, no other jumpers are permitted. If a jumper is worn it must be under the blazer, not instead of the blazer.

Uniform Expectations & Sanctions

Excessive make up, coloured nail varnish and extreme hairstyles are inappropriate for a school.  False eyelashes should not be worn that are considered as excessive. The decision on what constitutes excessive or extreme in regard to hair, jewellery, uniform or makeup, will be made by the senior leadership team.

For safety reasons, no earrings are allowed but, you can have one stud in each ear and a wristwatch may be worn. No other jewellery is allowed, including necklaces, wristbands, nose studs and other facial piercings (including tongue studs). You will be asked to remove these items if you wear them to school, and they may be confiscated for you to collect at the end of the week.

Please note, ear studs need to be removed for Physical Education.

All staff will reinforce the dress code as this an integral part of the TGS Way.

  • Failure to adhere to the dress code (Appendix C on f the behaviour) will result in parents being made aware of the issue by email or telephone. Where a pattern is identified for minor uniform infringements or a repeated issue occurs then social time will be removed.
  • Parents are expected to inform the Tutor if they have sent a student to school, wearing clothing that does not meet our Dress Code.
  • Learning Mentors will make a note in the Planner for short-term problems other than trainers.
  • Appropriate uniform will be lent to a student if available and Plimsolls are provided unless there is a genuine medical problem, accompanied by medical evidence of the need to wear alternative footwear.
  • Repeated defiance of the dress code will result in internal exclusion and/or suspension.
  • If any family requires support with uniform, then please contact the Student Support Manager and Learning Mentor team for assistance.
