Enquiries about exam results

For a small number of students each year there may be enquiries about exam results from students.

The school also reviews results carefully to identify unexpected results.

If you have any questions about exam results please contact the Deputy Headteacher, Mr Ryall, cryall@tgschool.net and the relevant subject leader, and copy in our Exams Officer Mr Marshall, amarshall@tgschool.net.

The most appropriate person will then resopnd to give you further information.

Reviews of marking

Clerical re-checks and reviews of marking could result in marks and subject grades going down as well as up.

We will advise you of the risk of a grade being lowered. Any request for a clerical re-check or review of marking must be supported by a completed consent form from the candidate - the form can be downloaded from the resources section on this page.

Exam boards provide access to student exam papers (scripts) which can be useful in deciding whether to request a re-check or review.

As well as access to scripts a number of services are available from Awarding Organisations, these include:

Service 1 (Clerical re-check)

This service will include the following checks:

  • that all parts of the script have been marked;
  • the totalling of marks;
  • the recording of marks

Service 2 (Review of marking)

This is a review of the original marking to ensure that the mark scheme has been applied correctly. A marking error can occur because of:

  • an administrative error;
  • a failure to apply the mark scheme where a task has only a ‘right’ or ‘wrong’  answer;
  • an unreasonable exercise of academic judgement

Reviewers will not re-mark the script. They will only act to correct any errors identified in the original marking.

Priority Service 2 (Review of marking) - for A Levels only

As above, but for students whose university place is dependent on results.

Service 3 (Review of moderation) - made by the school

Reviews of moderation will not change subject grades already awarded.

Fees

Each awarding oragnisation is able to set their own fees for each service. We will speak to you about the likelihood of a check leading to an imporved grade and whether or not a fee will be charged.
