New Year 7 Half Ribbon Framework

This year we are updating our Half Ribbon Framework to focus more on the 8 essential skills needed for the workplace along with achievement therefore they will be awarded for -  

  • Communication - Listening and speaking (purple)
  • Creative Problem Solving - Problem solving and Creativity (yellow)
  • Self Management - Adapting and Planning (green)
  • Collaboration - Leadership and Teamwork (light blue)
  • Achievements - Towards Academic Success (dark blue)

Students need to bring evidence in the form of letters from teachers, tutors, club organisers inside or outside of school, annotated photos etc to the careers hub to show Mrs Osborne or Mrs Cook, if approved they can upload it to their Morrisby account (careers system). 6 items of evidence are required for both skills before each of the five badges will be rewarded. Students will no longer have a plastic folder in careers but store all documents digitally in Morrisby. 

Achievement Ribbon (dark blue)

For the Achievement Ribbon you need to upload to Morrisby:

  1. Evidence of having read 10 books, at least 2 fiction and 2 non fiction, 5 need to be from TGS 50 lists - evidence is a paragraph on each explaining why this book was enjoyable or valuable, and what you would change about it or a question you would have for the author. Submitted digitally via Morrisby after signed by tutor, could be submitted one at a time. 2 merits for each.

  2. Two Achievement reports with all approaches positive or higher. 5 merits for each report. Digital evidence submitted by student to Morrisby.

  3. Two Achievement reports with at least 3 exemplaries on each. Can be same reports as submitted for previous item.

  4. Two examples of representation or support of a subject activity, this could be running a competition, displaying leadership in a subject or representing at a parent event or compeittion. Evidence as email letter of congratulations or certificate from subject leader or teacher.

  5. Submission of 3 minutes speech or one side essay of "why I value learning and what helps me succeed"? Submitted to Head of Year for authentication and congratulatory letter.

  6. Enrichment attended for at least 5 sessions with statement shared with tutor explaining how these sessions taught me something new and how this would support your progress in a specific subject areas.

Half Ribbons (Years 8 and 9)

All students are regularly encouraged by the Heads of House, tutors, subject teacher and support staff to get involved in the half and full ribbon scheme to award student's activities in the following areas and receive badges.

  • Progress
  • Community
  • Sport
  • Employabilty
  • Creativity

Students need 6 pieces of evidence for each to receive their half ribbon badges. This can include letters from teachers, Heads of House, external club leaders etc, annotated photos of them taking part in activities or awards received.  The aim of thise scheme is to encourage all students to take part in a variety of activities on offer in school as well as out of school clubs and voluntary work. Please see your childs planner for more information. Students are encouraged to visit the Careers Hub regularly to put their evidence into their Record of Achievement folder and receive a stamp so they can see progress made towards each half ribbon badge. Badges will be awarded in house assemblies. Criteria for the badges can be found in the resources section on the right or bottom of this page.

Full Ribbons (Years 9-11)

Overlapping with the half ribbons in Year 9 students can begin working on their full ribbons which will be awarded to them during graduation in Year 11. Whilst covering the same areas as the half ribbon i.e Community, Sports, Creative Arts, Commitment to Learning and Employability the criteria is more extensive. The framework for these ribbons can be found in the links on the right of this page and in your child's planner. Badges will be awarded in house assemblies. Criteria for the badges can be found in the resources section on the right or bottom of this page.
