Year 12 Assembly Guest Speaker : David Morris of Deutsche Bank.

Each term a small group of Year 12, and sometimes, Year 10 students from Thomas Gainsborough are fortunate to spend an aspirational 'Work Experience' day at the London office of Global Investment Bank, Deutsche Bank. David Morris has facilitated this opportunity for over 18 months.

Students are introduced to different Heads of department, who explain their role within the Bank; and their pathway to it. It is very much a day for keen students to understand more about the world of opportunity, and the chance, if taken, to network.

David's current role (5 years+) is Head of Internal Governance for Deutsche Bank. Prior to Deutschmark Bank, David worked in senior management roles in Royal Mail Group, Bard Pharmaeuticals, and Sainsbury’s PLC. David's story is an inspirational one, where his career route was not the assumed 'norm'.  He did not attend university until later in life.  He chose to work and study alongside obtaining both his Degree and Masters this way.  His is a true success story with heart.  Describing himself as "hugely passionate about well-being and mental health awareness". He has won international awards for the work he does on employee wellbeing, across the bank.

One of David's key roles, and passions, is as trustee and Non-Executive Director, of the Kernos Centre. He has been supporting Kernos since 2022.

The Kernos Centre exists to provide professional counselling and support for people with emotional and psychological difficulties – ensuring those most in need receive appropriate, effective and ongoing help, regardless of their resources.

A Sudbury-based charity founded in 2003, the Kernos Centre makes suitable therapy accessible to anyone – with no financial constraints or restrictions to the number of sessions. "We believe that therapy must be given sufficient time to be effective – and our clients always have the right to decide whether and when their needs have been met. Kernos is unique. Clients pay what they can afford. The cost of living crisis has meant contributions over the last 12 months have lessened considerably. Kernos don’t set limits to the number of sessions that clients receive. This is so important. They are there to support until the clients needs are met. With thousands of people already seen and many more waiting, they need our help to make sure that they can continue to provide for the years ahead."

Alongside Deutsche Bank colleagues David raised £3,695.00 by completing the 24 hour Three Peaks Challenge (Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike and Snowdon) in October 2024.

It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to hear David's career journey, and to hear about his inspirational work with the Kernos Centre.
