Please find attached a letter outlining the arrangements we have put in place at Thomas Gainsborough School from Monday 22 June to Thursday 25 June in response to the extreme temperatures forecast for this week.
Dear families,
We have all been looking forward to some sunshine, although perhaps not quite this much of it!
With temperatures forecast to reach around 35°C on Tuesday and Wednesday, before remaining in the low 30s towards the end of the week, I wanted to make you aware of some temporary adjustments for the entire week and provide some guidance to help keep students comfortable and safe whilst at school.
This week, students may choose to wear their PE kit, including PE shorts, instead of their usual school uniform. Students who prefer to wear their normal uniform may continue to do so; however, blazers will not be required whilst in and around the school site. Students may wear school shirts without ties.
We would also ask that all students bring a refillable water bottle to school each day and make regular use of the water stations available across the site. Staying hydrated will be particularly important during the warmer weather.
For days with PE lessons students should bring and apply suncream before their lessons. We will be taking breaks throughout the lessons, under shade on the field. Students can also bring in sunglasses and caps if they so wish to wear in lessons - caps as plain as possible.
If students choose to spend time outdoors during break and lunchtime, we would encourage families to ensure they have applied sun cream before school and, where appropriate, bring a hat to help protect them from the sun.
Staff will continue to monitor students throughout the day and make sensible adjustments where necessary. We will, of course, keep conditions under review and update families should any further changes be required as the week progresses.
Thank you for your support and cooperation.
We would be grateful if you could take a few moments to read the guidance and discuss it with your child, particularly the importance of bringing a water bottle to school and staying hydrated throughout the day.
Thank you for your support.
