Dear Families,
We have been commemorating VE day this week at school, and well done to all the Y8 students who have completed assessments in class, and older students who have started their exams successfully this week.
You can see some of our VE Day photos of students accessories and bunting on our website at https://tgschool.net/news/ve-day-80th-anniversary-8th-may-2025 along with a wonderful write up of our Y12s recent visit to see 3 of our recent TGS alumni at St Catherine’s College, Cambridge - a thrilling inspiration for our students, https://tgschool.net/news/st-catharine-s-college-trip
If you do occasionally buy the local Suffolk Free Press, you will be aware that we have a regular, monthly two page spread focused on school life. This month our article focuses on the benefits of reading, and how families can support reading.

Careers
Please don’t forget to check the weekly Career's Newsletter for a wide variety of work experience, in school employer spotlights events, apprenticeship information and more.
A few reminders for our students:
Year 9 students: please bring your Out to Work Day logbooks to Careers Hub and add to your Record of Achievement - you will get a Merit and a stamp towards Employability for this.
Year 10 students: please come to Careers Hub and add the Mock Interview sheet, which your Tutor will have given to you after our event in March, to your Record of Achievement folders. You will need this to go towards your Employability Ribbon for Graduation in Year 11.
Year 11 students: you can now hand in your Record of Achievement folders to Mrs Cook, ahead of your Graduation Thursday 26th June. She will check through and let you know what Ribbons you have achieved, if there’s anything you are close to getting and what you may like to add to achieve this.
You have until Friday 2 May 2025 to hand this in, thank you.
Y7 Annual Assessments for English, Science and Maths
During the week commending Mon 19 May, students in year 7 will have their first standardised assessments in English Maths and Science. These are designed to help give us next steps in our teaching and to check the progress of the whole year group against the progress of students in other schools. They are low stakes in that they are only a small part of the assessment picture for students. There is no preparation that students need to complete beyond their usual homework activities set on Go4Schools.
One of the English assessments and the Science assessment will take place in the Sports Hall. This is a valuable opportunity for students to experience the usual routines that they will follow throughout years 8 and 9 as they move towards GCSEs. Other assessments are conducted in lessons or online.
Students will be given full details in an assembly in preparation for the assessments. Feedback to students following the assessments will be given in class by teachers and will be available in Go4Schools.
