For students in Year 10, 11 12 and 13, mock examinations are an important part of the preparation and build up to the final examinations that will take place in May and June next year; they provide opportunities for students to experience the range of subjects that they are studying in a short space of time and they provide valuable assessment information to teachers, Heads of House and form tutors that will enable effective and targeted intervention to take place in the light of the results. Finally, they give students the opportunity to build on and extend revision that they completed for Year 10 or Year 12 examinations that will aid their final preparation in the new year.
As per the school calendar and as part of our regular cycle of assessment and reporting, we are holding exams for students in Year 7, 8 and 9 after half term.
Exams for Year 7 and 8 students will take place in the week beginning 25th June for the majority of subjects and the week after, July 2nd for Year 9 students.
As has been the case in recent years, exams for the core subjects of English, Maths and Science will take place in the Sports Hall. This will help familiarise students with the formal environment that they will experience increasingly frequently as they progress through the school towards their public exams at the end of year 11. Exams that will take place in the Sports Hall are shown on the schedule below.
Other exams will take place during timetabled lessons. The assessment information gleaned from these exams will help inform, along with information gained from continuous assessment during the school year, whether any group changes are necessary in the new school year.
Each subject area will allocate some lesson and preparation for learning time in the run up to the exams to help students prepare. Students should expect to also complete some specific exam preparation independently and subject staff will also share topics that will be covered in the exam during lessons in the near future.
