Dear students & families,
This week students have returned from half term to the richness of school life.
Amongst the exams, where students in Year 11 and 13 continue to excel, this week we have had visits from a Royal Shakespeare Company director, a leader in events management and a representative from the local active travel planning authority, all to work with our students.
We have also had our sports leaders helping other young people at local schools, and our sports teams competing at rounders and athletics. For students of all ages there has been a return to after school clubs and activities, and our in-house team have delivered an excellent psychology study day for year 12 students.
Thank you to all the students and staff who make this such an excellent school.
Healthy Eating Week Menu Choices
Next week our theme of the fortnight, Healthy Eating, turns into highly tasty opportunities for students to enjoy what our catering team can provide. There will be:
- Smoothies from the 6th form cafe
- Spinach and Beetroot wraps
- Whole Grain flour as a substitute where possible in puddings
- Sorbets
- Whole Grain Pasta
- 'Healthier' biscuits for lunch and break times, and
- A 'new' salad option each day.
We would encourage all students and families to make a healthy food choice next week!
New Enrichment Programme
This week staff have started their new round of extra and co-curricular clubs. These are an important part of school life offering sporting, creative, social and educational opportunities that students may not normally be able to enjoy. These are all free of any additional cost and finish in time for late buses, or students can wait in the library or sports centre to be collected.
Our new programme is available at https://tgschool.net/files/resources/summer-2-enrichment-offerings.pdf and we would strongly encourage all students to attend at least one of these activities each week.
Lost Property for Students
Lost Property will be on display in student services from next week - please ask your child to check there if they have lost anything and to claim it before the summer break.
Careers Newsletter
Don’t forget to check out this week’s Careers Newsletter with a list of our employer spotlights in school over the coming weeks including the armed services, a vet technician and one about women in construction as well as a list of apprenticeships, work experience opportunities, healthcare focus webinars and much more.
Year 11 Final preparations for Exams
With less than two weeks until the final Y11 exam on Weds 18 June, most students have 3-5 exams left. This gives them plenty of time to do the final revision. For GCSE maths all students have been provided with a “predicted” maths paper to help them focus on the skills most likely to be included in the last Maths exam. Please support their progress by spending some time with them this weekend, helping them refresh and relax and refocus on these final tasks.
Year 11 Record of Achievements - Celebrating Success
If your child still has their blue Record of Achievement (RoA) folder at home please could this be returned asap to Mrs Cook in the careers hub in order to add ribbons for Graduation day on Friday 26 June. You can leave the RoA at reception if that is helpful.
Year 10 Exams & Progress Checks with Agreed Personal Targets
On Wednesday we spoke to all Year 10s about their first round of practise GCSE exams and non-examined assessments (NEAs). These give teachers valuable information on how to adapt their teaching for your child, will contribute to decisions on appropriate entries and core teaching groups for next year. It also gives your child personal feedback on their next steps and helps them to establish strong routines for revision and exam days.
A timetable for these exams, and a second page showing what each exam is focused on is available here: https://tgschool.net/files/resources/y10-june-exams-plan-2025-250604.pdf
As well as the exam content information, your child will receive homework tasks to support their revision and there are further resources on our website at https://tgschool.net/revision
You will also find a copy of the presentation used to remind them of the process for leaving lessons for exams and what they need to bring in with them. This is a good time to find a clear, reusable water bottle for them to use for exams along with a clear exam pencil case, including at least two black pens.
https://tgschool.net/files/resources/y10-exams-revision-assembly-june-2025.pdf
The assembly also included a reminder to students about their “Agreed Personal Targets” which they have discussed and confirmed with their individual teachers. These targets are a helpful guide to where they should be aiming, but can of course be exceeded. The latest report, which was printed for students on Thursday, and is available on Go4Schools, shows personal comments, along with an Assessed Work and Predicted grades which can be helped to guide where students may need to be focusing their efforts.
As always if you have any questions about students progress, targets or their preparation tasks please contact their teachers. You can find their names on Go4Schools and their contact details on our website at https://tgschool.net/staff
Year 9 into Year 10 Options Information
Now that we have a fully staffed timetable to work with for September we are able to confirm option course allocations for September 2025. This starts next week with individual conversations with students where we have not been able to provide them with their full first four preferences. This is sometimes due to courses with one class being scheduled at the same time, or on rare occasions where a course is oversubscribed. These students will be asked to confirm that they are happy with their alternative course options. Later in the week we will also confirm with families any decisions made from their queries. Heads of House support this process and are usually your first point of contact for any questions or support.

Sudbury Library - Volunteers Needed
Would you like to be able to help run a lego club at Sudbury Library?
We have been running our Lego club for some time but decided we needed a refresh. We are very open to meeting with the students and chatting with them about how they would like to run it. This would be a similar club to those running in Great Cornard and Clare libraries.
We have a great deal of Lego and usually run in the afternoon on Saturday from about 2 pm but open to ideas. Happy to discuss timings especially if you are happy to set up and put away. We close at 5pm so we usually finish any activity at 4pm so as to get sorted.
Volunteering will count towards your community ribbon badge or Duke of Edinburgh award.
If you are interested - please use this link https://suffolkcommunitylibraries.co.uk/volunteer/
You might only see a couple of other library locations on there but we need you here in Sudbury!
The two referees can be school staff or friends or neighbours of the family - but not family members.
Lifesaving Club
Sudbury Lifesaving Club runs from The Kingfisher Leisure Centre on a Sunday afternoon. They are a volunteer team who teach lifesaving skills using the Royal Lifesaving Society (RLSS) awards to children between 8-18.
For further information, please see their poster - www.tgschool.net/news/sudbury-lifesaving-club

The Hair Studio, North Street, Sudbury - Year 11 offer

For further details, please contact them directly - www.thehairstudio.org.uk/ - we are very grateful to them for their kindness to our students, but remind students that this should be claimed after their final exam - which for most students is science on Monday 16 June.
