Welcome back! It has been great to see all our students return after the half-term break looking refreshed and ready to embrace the next half of the term with enthusiasm and determination.
You may already be aware that our CEO of Unity Schools Partnership, Tim Coulson, has moved into a new role at the Department for Education. We extend our sincere thanks to him for his support of Thomas Gainsborough School over the years and wish him well in his next step. We are also pleased to welcome his successor, Dominic Norrish, as the new CEO of Unity Schools Partnership. Dominic is a seasoned education professional, having worked as Chief Operating Officer for United Learning and then as Chief Executive of the Independent Association of Prep Schools (IAPS). Having trained as a history teacher and worked across Key Stages 2-5 in state schools, Dominic brings to the role a combination of hands-on teaching experience and trust leadership. He has strong East Anglian roots and is very much looking forward to contributing further to the success of our region’s young people.
On Thursday this week we held our Sixth Form Open Evening and I’m delighted to report that it was a fantastic event. So many families, staff and students were present, the subject-areas on offer showcased the immense breadth of opportunity we provide, and the buzz around the school was really uplifting.
Finally, I’m thrilled to announce that we have received a certificate confirming that our Sixth Form is now in the top 25% performing provisions nationally. As you know, we are already the top performing Sixth Form in the county — this accreditation is a further mark of distinction and a credit to everyone at TGS. We are incredibly proud of this achievement.
Thank you, as always, for your continued support. I hope you and your family enjoy a restful and enjoyable weekend.
