St Catharine's College Visit

On April 29th some of our Year 12 Sixth Form students attended a St Catharine's Visit, where they met with TGS alumni and current Cambridge students for an insight in to life at Cambridge University.

The visit gave a better understanding of student life at Cambridge University and advice on the application process.  Our students found the day very helpful and a few of them have shared their reactions with us.

On the 29th of April, some other students and I were given the great opportunity to visit St Catherine’s College, Cambridge for some useful insights on the application process and what life would be like there. We spoke to the school's liaison officer, Emily, and some students (including one of our alumni!), and the conversations we had were very informative. We also had a tour of the college, and I found seeing the different spaces and community there quite interesting. After lunch, we had a short mock-lecture to show us what it would be like to attend one at university. Overall, the experience was brilliant, and we felt incredibly welcomed by the college, and I am very grateful for the opportunity!

I thoroughly enjoyed the trip to St Catherine’s college, Cambridge. I found it gave me a great insight into how life was for students at Cambridge University, and the steps necessary to give myself the best chance of getting an offer. One highlight of my experience was when we went to the Department of Law, and acted out and debated famous trials; I got to pretend to shoot Tom Ford with a banana.

I found the trip to St Catherine’s college to be very interesting, and provided me with an insight on how life is at a top, prestigious university. For me, the student-led tour around the college effectively showed the key elements that students use to enhance their learning and achieve the top grades. A highlight for me was the Sherlock Library, which was a labyrinth of knowledge and inspired me to push for the top grades.
