Dear Families
Thank you for your support during a very busy and warm week. We have been impressed by the resilience and positivity shown by our students.
We received some very exciting news this week. We are the first secondary school in Suffolk to awarded
IQM Flagship School status. Please do take a moment to read th article on our website at www.tgschool.net/news/thomas-gainsborough-school-achieves-iqm-flagship-school-status
The full report ends with with following statements:
“It is worth highlighting the passion and dedication of the staff team. Many staff members spoke about the lengths to which their colleagues go to ensure that no child is left behind. Phrases such as “we go above and beyond” and “we are not an exam factory” capture the school’s commitment to educating the whole child. Academic success is important—and the school achieves it—but it is never prioritised at the expense of wellbeing, personal development, or inclusivity.
In conclusion, Thomas Gainsborough School is a shining example of what it means to be truly inclusive. It is a school where every child, regardless of background or starting point, is given the opportunity to flourish. The school’s commitment to inclusion is not a tick-box exercise but a deeply embedded ethos that informs every decision, every policy, and every interaction. Through its nurturing environment, high expectations, and unwavering belief in the potential of every learner, TGS is making a profound difference in the lives of its students and the wider community. It is a school to be proud of and one that exemplifies the very best of inclusive education.”
We know that, like many of our students, we may still have lessons to learn and progress to make but we are always very proud of our students, our staff and what we contribute to our community.
Messages for us to share with Mrs Yapp
As you will be aware, we have a new Headteahcer Mr Lewis joining the school in September. As Mrs Yapp retires after many faithful years as a teacher and school leader we would like to give you the opportunity to pass on your thanks.
You can use this link to leave any positive thanks or messages of encouragement which will be collated into a special gift book for us to pass on to Mrs Yapp.
Lost property
We have a number of items of lost property in school - these are on display near student services - please ask your child to check if they have lost anything this school year.

Race for Life - Thursday 3 July
One of the highlights of our school year is our annual “Race for Life” in aid of Cancer Research. This year’s event is scheduled for the afternoon of July 3rd at the end of an enrichment day and in the last week we have been sharing information via assemblies about the event and why we feel it is important.
Students have been encouraged to try and raise as much sponsorship money as possible and many have collected a traditional sponsorship form from school this week but there is also a QR code attached at the end of this letter which takes you to a just giving page. After the event, they should collect all their cash pledges and return the money in an envelope with their name and amount raised to Student Services by 10th July so that it can be safely banked before the end of term.
However, we know that many people prefer to make donations online, so, via Cancer Research, we have also set up an online donations page - all donations made this way go directly to Cancer Research. The link to this page is: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/page/thomas-gainsborough-school-race-for-life-2025
On July 3rd, to ease pressure on changing areas prior to the Race for Life in the afternoon, students who are running the 5km sponsored race should come to school in their normal PE school PE kit. Students who are walking but are also sponsored may choose whether to participate in their school uniform or their normal school PE kit Students who choose not to take part in either the sponsored 5 kilometre run or walk will still be expected to participate in a non sponsored walk as part of their school community and will be in their normal school uniform.
