Humanities Department

The Humanities Team currently consists of eight full time teachers teaching an exciting array of Humanities subjects.  The department has excellent teachers who are dedicated to ensuring students make as much progress as possible.

The department is experienced and is led by the Head of Humanities with Head of Subjects leading the day to day subjects.  All teachers are able to teach History, Geography or Philosophy but are also subject specialists in their own right providing strength and depth to the team.

Humanities in Thomas Gainsborough covers the following subjects:  Geography, History, Philosophy and Ethics.  All subjects have strong GCSE and A-level courses and we have dedicated rooms for A-Level and GCSE.  The Humanities corridor is dedicated to exciting, interactive and outcome led teaching -  excellence is the norm!

Thomas Gainsborough is an innovative school operating three pathways of learning; Grammar, Broad and STEM.   The impact of this is directly linked to our schemes of work, tailored to each class and their pathway.

GCSE classes are mixed ability.  Humanities subjects are amongst the largest option subjects at Thomas Gainsborough.  History, Geography and Philosophy have had fantastic results in the past few years.  They have all been above the national average and progress scores have been strong and above zero for all teachers.

Latin has become a GCSE Subject for the first time this year and Government and Politics is now taught at A-Level.  Humanities is an active department.  All teachers are involved in trips and we work well across the Academy trust to share ideas and best practice.  The department includes examiners and plays an active role in initial teacher training.  We look forward to welcoming a dedicated teacher who will bring new ideas and working well in this excellent team!

We look forward to receiving your application.
