Key Stage 3 Overview
During KS3 students will be taught the basics of electronics through a series of design and make projects.
In Year 7 all students will make a moisture detector. This gives them an introduction to the use of transistors and LEDs in simple circuits as well as the technique of vacuum forming.
In Year 8 all students will make a programmable electronic dice. This project introduces the use of microprocessors to embed intelligence into products.
In Year 9 students design and manufacture their own electronic mood-light using rainbow LEDs. This project introduces more advanced uses of transistors as well as the manufacture of Printed Circuit Boards (PCB) and the laser cutting of a stand for the mood-light.
Key Stage 4 Courses
Students in Years 10 & 11 can study a BTec Level 2 in Engineering (Electronics Design).
Details of this course is available from the linked resources on this page.
