What will I study?

Entry Requirements

Students should have achieved a Merit or above in Level 2 BTEC in Sport, or Grade 5 or above in GCSE PE.


Units will be assessed through one of three methods:

  • Assignment - Set and marked internally by Thomas Gainsborough School, then a sample will be sent to the exam board for standardising
  • Task - Set and marked by Pearson, the exam board
  • Written Exam - Set and marked by Pearson, the exam board

Where next?

This qualification is primarily designed to support progression to employment after further study at university. However, it also supports learners who choose to progress directly to employment, as the transferable knowledge, understanding and skills will give learners an advantage in applying for a range of entry level roles or ‘school leaver’ industry training programmes and Higher Apprenticeships in areas such as sport and fitness training, coaching, and sports performance research. The qualification is intended to carry UCAS points and is recognised by higher education providers as meeting admission requirements for many relevant sports and sport-related courses, for example: Degrees in Sports Science or Sports and Exercise Sciences. Learners should always check the entry requirements for degree programmes with specific higher education providers.
