What will I study?
This qualification is a cross curricular subject combining elements of science, geography and business.
The course will include:
- The principles of sustainable development
- Sustainable communities
- Science for environmental technicians
- The business environment
- Energy management
- Informatics for environmental and sustainability industries
- An investigative project in the sustainability sector
And will include units from the following areas:
- Wildlife populations, ecology and conservations
- Water quality
- Pollution management
- Coastal management
- Urban environment
- Sustainable facilities management
- Sustainable construction
The course will prepare students not just for jobs in the environment and sustainability sectors, but careers supporting business and industry reducing their impact on the environment and climate change.
BTEC National Level 3 Diploma in Environmental Sustainability
Students should have 5 GCSEs Grades 9-4 including English, Maths and Science.
There are no exams for this course and assessment is through a range of assignments produced for each module.
The sustainability sector is one of the fastest growing in the UK and there is a demand for fresh, innovative thinkers in the industry.
This qualification would be useful for students wanting to work in any of the fields within the course such as environmental protection, energy management, as sustainability officers, urban planners, rural planning as well as for organisations such as the Environment Agency or Forestry Commission. It may lead into apprenticeships or university as well as employment.
There are a range of degree course progression routes that follow on from this course which includes Environmental Science, Geography and Business amongst others.
