Last autumn, some of our students took part in a competition organised by the Western Front Association to design an advert for an item that soldiers might have found useful in the trenches. The quality of their work was recognised and they were awarded a prize or certificate for their efforts.

Following this, the school received an offer from the Western Front Association for 6 students, to take part in their annual service of Remembrance, at the Cenotaph in London, on Monday November 11th. This was a massive honour as hundreds of schools enter the competition and dozens enter the ballot to attend the service.

We travelled to London early on Monday morning to attend the pre-service activities and then the service itself at 11am. Two students were selected to lay a wreath on behalf of our community. After the service the students visited Westminster Abbey to see the tomb of the Unknown Warrior and the poppy field that was laid out in the grounds.

This week after we return to school, the students in attendance have been asked to write a brief reflection of their experience which will be published in the Western Front Association magazine.
