Dear Families,

Another busy week with the highlight being our fantastic Enrichment day on Thursday. We are looking forward to seeing you all on Monday for Academic Review Day. This is a time to focus on targets for the forthcoming year and time to raise any concerns. Members of the Senior Leadership Team will also be available throughout the school day.

Progress Checks

Students received their first progress check of the year. This gives information on what is being taught this year, and the names of teachers for each class, as well as students’ approach to lessons taught more than once a week.

Please use this information to talk to your child about their learning, and use the attendance and behaviour information to encourage important positive habits.

There is more information about our reporting systems at www.tgschool.net/assessment-reporting  and you can find more details about each subject at www.tgschool.net/subjects. If you have specific questions relating to subject areas you are always welcome to email teachers directly, our contact details are at www.tgschool.net/staff

Enrichment Continues

We have a wider range of activities to support students in developing valuable skills and to support their learning. You can access details at www.tgschool.net/enrichment Students can attend these events without pre-booking.

Road Safety

We have had a number of complaints from our local community regarding families collecting students at the end of the day. This is typical of a recent email:

“There is an increasingly large number of parents parking along Broom Street which is causing a danger to children, children are forced to walk down the middle of the road in places. Parents are also parking across people's driveways. It is even difficult for some cars to pass where parents are parking. Can you please advise parents to park carefully and correctly in accordance with the highway code.”

We please ask you to show consideration for our neighbours.

TGS Online Safety Newsletter

As an increasing number of wellbeing studies are being undertaken, this month's Online Safety Newsletter highlights the effect of mobile phones on children’s mental health. Pleasingly, mobile phone network carrier EE has launched Age Guidance advice for parents, including information about Instagram’s new Teen accounts, which is well worth a read.

EE’s Age Guidance can be found at www.tgschool.net/news/tgs-online-safety-newsletter-october-2024 along with more useful information around online safety for October.

Free School Meal Vouchers for October half term

We have been advised by Suffolk County Council that vouchers will be issued by them for the first week of the October Half Term. This will be a £15 voucher from Pluxee.

This will be sent to you from Suffolk County Council (unless we print your voucher in school) by Thursday 24 October.

Any issues with these, please contact freeschoolmeals@suffolk.gov.uk.

For the second week, you will also receive a Pluxee voucher but it will be sent by Unity School Partnership - date to be confirmed.

Year 7-11 Nasal Flu Vaccine

A reminder that the vaccination team will be in school on Monday 14 & Monday 21 October.

Please complete the form on the portal even if you do not wish your child to be vaccinated or they have received it elsewhere - www.eastanglia.schoolvaccination.uk/flu/2024/suffolk

Go4 Schools Attendance

We are aware there are small differences on some students' attendance percentages that display on the parental Go4Schools App.  The figure that is seen by some parents is not accurate when compared to the school system. Please bear this in mind if receiving communication around attendance that you subsequently check on the App.

If you would like an accurate report of attendance for your child when communication is received, then please do contact attendance@tgschool.net. We are working with Go4Schools to try and ensure this glitch in their system is amended.

Barclays Girls Football Schools Partnership

The video below promotes & highlights the work that some of the girls from TGS have been doing to promote girls football. Huge thanks to Sophie, Evie, Miley, Eloise, Callie and Isabel who are our regular Wednesday after school coaches; they're making a huge difference to the lives of girls in the area. www.tgschool.net/news/barclays-girls-football-schools-partnership

iPads shared with Sixth Form Students

Our fantastic sixth form students received their iPads this week. The students and staff will be able to take their current learning opportunities to a different level over the coming weeks and months. The students were extremely excited and appreciative of this initiative and have already started using them in their classes.

We look forward to discovering more together. www.tgschool.net/news/ipads-shared-with-sixth-form-students
