Dear Families,
A very busy week. Thank you to everyone who attended our three Awards evenings and for the support you give to our community. Thank you also for the numerous positive messages we have received regarding our guest speaker Paul Hannaford who spoke to our Sixth form, Years 11 and 10 about the dangers of drugs and gangs.
Sixth Form Open Evening
Following on from our assembly with Year 11 students this week we are pleased to share details of our popular and successful Sixth Form. Families of year 11 students are welcome to join us on Tuesday 14 November, from 5 to 8 pm.
To help us plan the event we would be grateful if you could register your interest on this online form.
More details about the event are at www.tgschool.net/news/sixth-form-2024 and explore our courses at www.tgschool.net/sixth-form
Y11 Autumn Half Term Revision & Wellbeing
After a successful move to January mock exams for Y11 and Y13 students last year, we will again have the major mock exams for students in January. To help students spread their revision more evenly over the next 10 weeks, and reduce the work needed over the Christmas break, we have started to set meaningful revision tasks for the autumn two week break. Students will receive these via Go4Schools from their teachers.
We have also refreshed our revision resources available at www.tgschool.net/revision. You will find clearly organised, specific tasks and resources for each subject as well as information on exam boards and recommended online activities.
If you have further questions about your child’s progress in a particular subject then please do contact their teachers.
As well as revision, spread out over time, we would also recommend the continuation of good habits to ensure that your children are refreshed, relaxed and reassured about their progress. Time to relax, with friends and family, physical exercise and good sleep & diet, all contribute to success and happiness. You can find out more about our support and advice for students and families at www.tgschool.net/wellbeing.
Attendance Reporting
We would like to remind families about the process for reporting or advising school of absences or medical appointments. Please call or email attendance@tgschool.net or call 01787 375232 to report absences. If possible before 8.30am for illness. For medical appointments, please do let us know in advance of the date where possible.
Full information and support regarding attendance can be found at our website, Attendance | Thomas Gainsborough School (tgschool.net).
Y13 Subject Teacher Evening
Thank you to all the families who have booked appointments to see teachers at our first Subject Teacher event of the year. There are still appointment slots available for most teachers.
As well as your appointment with subject teachers Mrs Osborne will be available to book in with if you wish to discuss Post 18 options with her. You can provisionally book a time with her by emailing kosborne@tgschool.net.
Y10 Work Experience
Please encourage your young person to explore ideas on their Morrisby account, www.morrisby.com and speak to Mrs Cook in careers, or email pcook@tgschool.net, about setting up work experience. They can have up to two weeks if their attendance is over 95% ideally before their mock exams in June but we would encourage them to think about it sooner rather than later.
Careers Newsletter & Year 11 College Open Days
Please see the Careers Newsletter for a list of all local college and 6th form open days/evenings. Ideally they will have at least one application submitted by Christmas. Please contact Mrs Osborne in careers (kosborne@tgshool.net) if you need more information about Post 16 options such as A-Levels, BTECs and Apprenticeships.
The Will Leonard Memorial Quiz Night
