Careers Entitlement

Our aim is to provide students with information from varied sources to allow them to make informed decisions regarding options, further education, higher education, apprenticeships and future Career pathways. Mrs Baker and the independent careers adviser offer information, advice and guidance to students.  They are both qualified Careers Practitioners. The independent careers adviser visits school on a regular basis.

Careers opening times and contact details

All School Years

We provide the following exciting activities:

Employer Workshops – employers from various industries come into school usually around 1.15pm until 2pm.  Workshops are advertised to students via Student Noticeboard which is read out to students during tutorial time every morning.  Students are encouraged to sign up for these workshops at Student Services reception and in the new Careers room.  Students must have written permission from subject teachers to enable them to attend.

Enrichment Day activities – Three days each year students are provided with a programme of activities which cover Careers and PSHE education.  We plan activities such as Speed Employer Networking, employer led activities and Charity events. Visits to TGS from Universities, Colleges and employers to share information.  Roadshows to promote healthy living and Career opportunities.

Visits to Careers Fairs – meet local employers, colleges and universities to gain information.

Visits to Local Employers – Usually offered to students in small groups.

Careers interviews – upon request – there is a sign up list in the Careers Library within Student Services. All students can request an interview with our own fully qualified careers practitioner or the independent careers adviser.

Careers & Working Party Club – Monday after school.  We explore your own skills and qualities, we learn about careers and further Education in a fun way.

Year 10/12

Work Experience – Students are offered a work experience pathway interview with the careers team. Students are encouraged to plan for a work experience placement.

Work Experience Entitlement  – 15 days work experience between Year 10 – 13.  Students are encouraged to take up to 10 days in Year 10 and are offered 5 days in Year 12.

Year 11 & Sixth Form

Career Pathway Interview – with Mrs Baker.  Students are offered information, advice and guidance to support them in their applications to Sixth Form, College, Apprenticeships and University.  Mrs Baker will work with the students to review their grade levels, and will offer impartial information sources to enable students to make informed choices.

Open Event information  – A full list of open events is made available for students in the Careers Hub and shared by email.  Students are encouraged to attend open events with their parents/carers.
