Students made the news for real on 16 March 2017 as part of BBC News School Report.

BBC School Report 10th March 2016

On the 25th February, our Year 12 students were fortunate enough to have Jo Mathys, Senior Report for Current Affairs Impact and Digital working with them for the whole day.   The aim of the day was to research a story, write the report and record and edit it for a radio broadcast.   The highlight of the day was a face to face interview with local MP James Cartlidge – the students got to interview him about his recent petition for a mobile mast in the county’s worst affected ‘not-spots’.   They also went on to interview Dr Rob Matthews from Vodafone to find out what could be done.   It was a very enjoyable day and students were inspired and learnt what it was like to record the news for ‘real’!

News Day – 19th March 2015

Year 12 students have been working with BBC Radio Suffolk’s newsreader Steve Blower this past week, in preparation for Thursday 19th March.  They have already pre-recorded some vox pops and an intro for the breakfast slot, and will be ‘live’ on air on Mark Murphy’s show between 09:00 and 10:00 discussing ‘The Big Conversation’ on “Should 16/17 year olds be given the right to vote?”  They will be interviewing Professor Paul Whiteley from Essex University and Will Brett, Head of Campaigns from Electoral Reform Society.

The idea is that as well as taking part in BBC School report – they will also be experiencing what it is like to research, plan, record, edit and broadcast with a whole day’s experience!!

Look out for tweets throughout the day @tgschoolmedia
